With a new year comes new year’s resolutions. We often create resolutions for ourselves, but what about our homes? We spend a lot of time at home, so it’s important to make sure it’s a comfortable place. Here are some ideas for new year’s resolutions for your home:

Turn your bedroom and bathroom into a relaxing retreat

The master bedroom and bathroom should be a comfortable and relaxing place for you to start the day and unwind at the end of the day. Use neutral colors as a backdrop for furniture and art pieces. Add in your own personal touches, like a nook for reading. Incorporate different levels of lighting to use throughout the day. Add light sconces at eye level next to your mirror in the bathroom. Allow for natural light, wherever possible.

Get organized

Decluttering and organizing your home can feel like a monumental task, but it feels so good once you’re done! Start with one room at a time and go through everything. Trash or donate things you don’t use. Find a place for each item. Utilize shelf space, over the door, hooks, and under the bed for more storage space. Check out some more home organization tips here

Experiment with color

Neutrals make a great base for a room, but we also love to experiment with pops of color! Consider adding an accent wall of a 2022 color of the year (Pantone, Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore). If an accent wall is a bit too much, use art, furniture and accessories to add fun pops of color throughout your home. If you really want to experiment with fun colors and patterns, try using wallpaper!

Add greenery and fresh flowers

Greenery and flowers, of course, are very visually appealing. But that’s not the only reason to add more natural plant life to your home. Houseplants can help purify the air indoors and are also thought to help reduce stress and increase productivity. They can also act as a barrier to reduce noise or visibility if you are trying to section off part of a room. Fresh flowers are a great way to bring the outdoors in with pops of color.

Make your home office a productive space

We’ve talked a lot about home offices this past year. Many people had to work from home and realized their home office wasn’t that great, or they didn’t have a dedicated work space at all. Here are some of our tips for designing or updating your home office.

Get smart with smart home technology

Incorporating smart home tech into your day-to-day life makes things more productive and convenient. It can also help you be more energy efficient and even save some money. Consider adding an entertainment hub where you can streamline all your devices. Smart appliances, smart lighting, and smart locks are upgrades that can make your life way easier.
