Today on the blog we are talking about aging gracefully! Well, at least about aging gracefully in your home. If anyone has the secret to anti-aging, please let us know.
Aging in place refers to being able to live comfortable and safely in your home throughout your golden years without losing quality of life. Depending on what stage of life you are in, you may or may not be thinking about aging in place. When you are building a new home (or renovating your existing home), this is an important topic that needs to be considered. With the aging population here in the United States, aging in place has become a hot topic in the interior design industry. Luckily, here at Trade Mark Interiors we have some ideas for you.
Aging Gracefully in Your Home
- One thing you may have heard before is to have the master bedroom on the main floor of your home. While this is entirely dependent on your personal situation, if you are building your forever home this is something you may want to consider.
- Contrasting surfaces help us as we age with eyesight and distinguishing surfaces and steps in the home.
- Make door handles levers as those are easier to manage as we get older.
- Put a bench and grab bars in the shower. Having a bench in the shower is helpful for multiple reasons. It is a safer way for elderly people to shower without having to worry about falling, an easier way for us women to shave our legs, and a helpful thing to have if someone at any age gets injured and needs a little assistance.
