Have you been thinking about doing some updates in your home?  If so, you may be thinking about home interior design trends for 2024.  Well, we have a trend alert for you! Trade Mark Interiors loves to share upcoming interior design trends and tips with you.

One home interior design “trend” that we will see continue, possibly year after year, is the use of sustainable materials in homes.  In our experience, we have seen various ways to implement sustainable materials into home interior design and we do incorporate it into our interior design practices.   Would you like to know how to incorporate those practices into your home design?

Ways To Incorporate Sustainable Materials Into Your Home

Flooring

There are some amazing options when it comes to flooring.  If you would like to use sustainable materials for your home’s flooring you may want to consider reclaimed wood, bamboo, or the timeless elegance that natural stone offers.  When it comes to carpets, select carpets that are made with natural fiber, such as wool or sisal.

Furniture

When it comes to selecting furniture you will want to look for reclaimed or recycled materials.  You would be surprised by how many beautiful pieces you can find in your local consignment shops or antique stores.  There is nothing like finding furniture in these places with quality craftsmanship that holds unique beauty that can not be found in big box stores. They create added interest and charm in your home.

If you are looking for new furniture, you can select pieces made from sustainably harvested wood or materials like bamboo or rattan.  Plus rattan furniture fits in well when you are looking to obtain a coastal feel.

Lighting

For your lighting, you will want to choose energy-efficient LED lighting to reduce energy consumption.  You can also opt for fixtures made from sustainable materials, such as recycled metal or natural fibers.

Again, do not pass up on the opportunity to shop at your local antique stores. Crystal chandeliers are timeless and they enhance the elegance factor in your dining space.  Plus chandeliers can make an amazing first impression in your foyer.

Eco-friendly bamboo window treatments.

Window Treatments

Selecting your window treatments can be fun.  Look for energy-efficient blinds or curtains to regulate temperature and reduce energy consumption. Choose textiles made from organic or sustainable fabrics. Bamboo is a great eco-friendly option to use for your window treatments.

Accessories & Decor

Incorporate decor pieces into your home made from reclaimed or recycled materials.  Search for pieces that have been made from recycled glass or metal.  Keep in mind not all recycled materials “look” recycled, there are beautifully crafted recycled pieces out there that bring the charm.  Also, for your artwork collection, look for local artisans who prioritize sustainable practices.

Cabinetry

When you are looking to buy new cabinets look for cabinets made from FSC-certified wood (Forest Stewardship Council) to ensure responsible forestry practices.  Another thing to consider when it comes to cabinetry is if the existing cabinets are in good condition you may want to see if refacing them would be a viable option.  That way you will be reducing unnecessary waste.
